Awaiting the outcome of the 115 charges labelled against them, Manchester City were “stunned” after the English Premier League authorities came up with a bizarre request. Even as the verdict is yet to be announced in the case concerning the 115 breaches of financial rules back in February 2023, City has been repeatedly mocked by fans, including viral impressionist Conor Moore. Now, it has emerged that the Premier League wanted to maximise Moore’s fame and enquired whether Manchester City would be interested in a collab with him.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the collaboration would’ve involved Moore doing impressions of several City stars, while they were sat in the room and their reactions were recorded. Unsurprisingly, the request had been declined by the miffed and “stunned” City personnel, the report further said. Aware of the several impressions Moore had made about the 115 charges and joked about the club, including impersonations of manager Pep Guardiola, City officials wanted nothing to do with him.
The Premier League had approached Moore, who had been with Sky Sports and impersonated many football, golf and F1 players, to work with Manchester City ahead of the new season. However, the approach didn’t sit well with City officials, especially after Moore had made a sketch impersonating Guardiola.
Notably, the 115 charges imposed against Manchester City include 54 alleged breaches over “failure to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18″ and 35 allegations of “failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations from December 2018-February 2023.” The remaining charges involve 14 failures to “provide accurate financial reports for player and manager compensation from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18″ and “breaches of Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations from 2015/16 to and including 2017/18″ seven times, as well as five breaches of not complying with UEFA’s regulation, including club licensing and financial fair play regulations.
While City continues to deny any wrongdoing on their part, a Times report suggests a verdict is likely to be made public next season. Both parties, however, are allowed to appeal against the verdict if there are any punishments involved.
