17,016 units, up 10 percent YoY
The Hyundai Creta, which is India’s longstanding No. 1 mid-size SUV, has topped the sales chart in April 2025 with wholesales of 17,016 units. While this makes for a 10 percent YoY increase (April 2024: 15,447 units), it is down 6 percent month-on-month (March 2025: 18,059 units). It was felt that the Creta’s sales would further accelerate with the launch of the Creta Electric earlier this year, but that has not happened. Nevertheless, the Creta has opened FY2026 on a good note as the best-selling car.
2. Maruti Dzire
16,996 units, up 7 percent YoY
Wholesales of 16,996 units sees the Maruti Dzire in a close second place, just 20 units behind the Creta. The only sedan on the list, the Dzire saw a YoY increase of 7 percent (April 2024: 15,825 units), and a MoM growth of 10 percent (March 2025: 15,460 units). Launched in November last year, the fourth-gen Dzire is the best-selling Maruti car in April 2025.

16,971 units, down 1 percent YoY
The Maruti Brezza compact SUV, with 16,971 units, is third on the podium. Demand though is marginally down by 1 percent on April 2024’s 17,113 units. In FY2025, the Brezza was ranked fourth (1,89,163 units) on the UV sales charts and No. 2 on the compact SUV chart.

In April, the Ertiga, which is sold with petrol and CNG powertrains, sold 15,780 units, up 17 percent YoY, to take fourth place. Last fiscal, the Ertiga sold 1,90,974 units to achieve its best-ever fiscal year performance and was India’s fourth best-selling car in FY2025.

In FY2025, the Scorpio twins sold a total of 1,64,842 units and were ranked tenth on the sales chart.
6. Tata Nexon
15,457 units up 38 percent YoY
The Tata Nexon compact SUV was once the brand’s longstanding best-seller but was out-staged by sibling Punch in the previous fiscal. The Nexon has opened FY2026 on a strong note – the 15,457 units are a 38 percent YoY increase (April 2024: 11,168 units). Not only does this make the Nexon Tata’s No. 1 model for April 2025, contributing 34 percent to Tata’s 45,199 overall PV sales, but it is also India’s second best-selling compact SUV for the month.
7. Maruti Swift
14,592 units, up 256 percent YoY
The fourth-gen Maruti Swift is bringing in the number for the brand, with 14,592 units wholesaled in the month, a whopping 256 percent increase over sales in last April (4,094 units). This is because the previous gen model was on its way out at the time, with the new Swift launching in May 2024. However, the hatchback’s MoM sales are down 18 percent (March 2025: 17,746 units). The Swift is one of the many Maruti Arena models with discounts above Rs 50,000 during this month.
8. Maruti Fronx
14,345 units, margnial YoY growth
At No. 8 is the Maruti Fronx, another compact SUV from the brand, though sold via the more premium Nexa outlets. The 14,345 units sold in April 2025 constitute flat sales (April 2024: 14,286 units), which could be a result of Maruti Suzuki optimising this SUV’s inventory levels at its dealerships. Although YoY sales figures are down 6 percent (April 2024: 14,049 units), MoM Baleno sales grew 7 percent from 12,357 units. The Maruti Baleno placed seventh on the FY2025 sales charts.
