The Sports Ministry has launched a comprehensive internship policy to offer hands-on experience to students in sports governance, administration and allied fields.

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched a Comprehensive Internship Policy to create a structured platform for training young talent and strengthening India’s sports ecosystem. The initiative aims to offer large-scale internship opportunities to students from colleges and universities, giving them practical exposure to sports administration and related fields.
According to the Ministry, the internship programme will be implemented across the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and its autonomous bodies. Interns will get first-hand experience in areas such as sports governance, administration, sports science, anti-doping, event management, and athlete support services. The initiative is expected to help build a skilled talent pool for the sports sector.
Launching the policy, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said the programme will empower young people to play an active role in India’s sporting development. He said the internships will allow youth to gain hands-on experience, contribute meaningfully to nation-building through sports, and explore career opportunities in sports governance and administration.
Mandaviya added that the initiative addresses the growing need for professionally trained manpower as India continues to expand its sporting infrastructure, strengthen governance reforms, and increase its presence on the global sports stage.
Under the new policy, the Ministry will offer 452 internships every year across its departments and key institutions. These include the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), and the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).
The Ministry said the policy is expected to play a key role in developing future professionals who can support India’s long-term goals in sports administration and athlete development.
