A nine-year-old Indian-origin footballer is turning heads in England after securing a place in one of the Premier League’s most respected youth systems.
Urban Negi, a promising young talent from South East London, has officially signed with the Everton FC Academy, marking a major step in his budding career and for Indian football.
Negi first caught attention at age seven while playing for Dynamo Youth FC, a well-regarded grassroots club known for developing technically gifted youngsters. His performances there set him apart early, and after a strong showing in trials, he earned his invitation to train at Everton’s Finch Farm Academy.
The young midfielder already has his inspirations in place, idolising Everton’s No. 10 Iliman Ndiaye, whose creativity and flair have made him a fan favourite.
Clips circulating online show Negi demonstrating impressive close control, dribbling ability and composure for his age.
For India, the news is particularly notable. Representation in the Premier League has historically been sparse, with Michael Chopra and Neil Taylor the most recognisable names of Indian heritage to have played at the top level.
While Negi is far too young to project as a future Premier League player, his early progress is an encouraging sign for both Everton and fans hoping to see more Indian-origin players rise through elite pathways.
