Expert shares 5 kitchen staples that can ‘boost desire and improve performance in the bedroom’ | Health News

Following food and sleep, sex is one of the three pillars of good health. But busy days and hectic schedules riddled with anxiety and stress can lower your sex drive. However, a well-stocked kitchen can play an important role in increasing your libido and overall sexual health. Instead of running behind supplements and over-the-counter medication, choosing simple pantry staples can go a long way.

Dr Shashank M S, consultant – Urology and Renal Transplant, Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, said certain foods are known for their aphrodisiac properties, which can help boost desire and improve performance in the bedroom. These include:

1. Dark Chocolate

Ingredients such as dark chocolate, which is rich in flavonoids, can increase blood flow and stimulate the release of endorphins, creating a sense of pleasure and intimacy.

2. Avocados

Avocados are also packed with healthy fats and vitamin E, which contribute to hormone production and can enhance energy levels, making them a vital addition to your diet for a more fulfilling sexual experience.

3. Nuts

Almonds are high in vitamin E and magnesium, both of which are crucial for hormone regulation and can help improve libido.

4. Seeds

Pumpkin seeds, on the other hand, are rich in zinc, a mineral that plays a key role in testosterone production. This hormone is vital for sexual desire in both men and women.

5. Fruits

Fruits such as watermelon and berries can also have a positive impact on sexual health. Watermelon contains citrulline, an amino acid that can help relax blood vessels and improve circulation. Berries, particularly strawberries and raspberries, are loaded with antioxidants that can enhance blood flow and reduce inflammation, further supporting sexual function.

“By integrating these five kitchen staples into your diet, you not only nourish your body but also create a foundation for a more vibrant and satisfying intimate life,” said Dr Shashank, adding that excessive alcohol intake and smoking can negatively affect sexual health.

“Additionally, proper hydration is crucial for various bodily functions, including sexual health. Since high-stress levels can impact sexual function, incorporate stress-reducing activities such as meditation or yoga into your routine,” he suggested.

In fact, open communication about desires, concerns, and preferences can enhance sexual satisfaction for both partners, he added. Dr Shashank also urged men to use protection to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and promote overall sexual health.
