JNUSU Launches Hunger Strike

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) started an indefinite hunger strike on Thursday night against the university’s decision to exclude June 2025 UGC-NET exam candidates from the admission process and its refusal to resume the PhD entrance exam.

JNUSU called the admission process “exclusionary” and “undemocratic,” condemning the exclusion of recent postgraduates who took the June 2025 UGC-NET exam. They argued this decision affects many MA graduates and reiterated their demand to reinstate the JNU PhD Entrance Examination (JNUEE) as a fairer admission method.

The union accused the administration of refusing to engage with elected student representatives and accused the Vice-Chancellor of selective dialogue and administrative high-handedness. JNUSU leaders, including president Nitish Kumar, vice-president Manisha, and general secretary Munteha Fatima, vowed to continue the hunger strike until their demands are met.
