Brit tennis ace Emma Raducanu breezed into the second round of the 2025 edition of Wimbledon with a rout of compatriot Mingge Xu in a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets triumph on a historic day with as many as seven British players moving sealing progress at the prestigious grass court event.
Raducanu, the youngster who turned heads with her maiden Grand Slam triumph in the 2021 edition of the US Open, will spearhead home hopes for a Brit to clinch the title at the fabled SW19.

The last Brit to clinch the coveted prize was Andy Murray, who achieved the feat in 2013, while the last British woman to win the title at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was Virginia Wade in 1977.
Nearly half a century has whisked by since a British woman clinched the storied Venus Rosewater dish, and the tennis-loving populace of Great Britain will rally behind Raducanu, looking for her second Major title, at the event in the English Capital City.
Canada-born Raducanu, the daughter of a Romanian father and a Chinese mother, arrived on English shores when she was two-years old and has gone on to accomplish a multitude of achievements in her nascent career, earmarked by her triumph at the Flushing Meadows as a teenager, which turned her into a instant sensation.
A lot of expectations were pinned on the young Brit following the triumph but, the Tottenham Hotspurs fan has gone on to perform rather underwhelmingly since her triumph in North America with a string of early exits at Grand Slam events and frequent bouts of injuries sidelining her so as to hinder any semblance of momentum.
Raducanu, who announced that she’d team up with Carlos Alcaraz for the mixed doubles event at the US Open later in the year, quashed any talks of a romance with the the Spanish wunderkind limiting their relationship to a strictly professional and sporting one.
Following the announcement, Alcaraz jested that Raducanu would hold the reins when they step out to play together at the Flushing Meadows later in the year as the two build a working rapport together ahead of their challenge.
Cameron Norrie, Arthur Fery, Oliver Tarvet, Jack Pinnington-Jones, Dan Evans, Jack Draper and Billy Harris all advanced to the subsequent rounds of the event, while Katie Boulter, and Sonay Kartal also secured progress. However, British aspirations for the elusive title stay firmly pinned on the potential Raducanu possesses.

“It’s my favourite tournament by far,” said Raducanu following her win over the Welsh Xu as the crowd demonstrated their support for the star with a raucous ovation.
And the British faithful, who look for a deep run by one of their own at the headline grass court event as the championships progress, put their trust on the able shoulders of Raducanu.
