The Indian badminton duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty began their China Open 2025 campaign in solid fashion as they got the better of Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura on Wednesday.

Rankireddy and Shetty coasted to a 21-13, 21-9 victory in just 31 minutes over the Japanese duo to move into the subsequent round of the event in Changzhou.

India’s top rated men’s duo began the tie in commanding fashion as they put their opponents under constant pressure to clinch the opening set with a comfortable seven-point lead. Satwik and Chirag went on to close out the game in the second set with a even more domineering showing against the Japaese duo who looked out of their depth.

Satwik and Chirag have reached the semifinals at the Malaysia Open, India Open and Singapore Open this year, and will look to improve on their showings at the event in China.

The women’s doubles pair of Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda were shown the exit door by Nga Ting Yeung Yeung and Pui Lam Yeung of Hong Kong 12-21, 13-21 in a fixture that lasted all of 31 minutes.

Earlier in the day, star shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the Round of 16 in the women’s singles event with her victory over Tomoka Miyazaki.

The 30-year-old Indian achieved a 21-15, 8-21, 21-17 victory against the teenage Japanese shuttler, marking her first win against a top-10 ranked opponent this year. Her triumph over the Japanese teenager allowed her to avenge her defeat by Miyazaki at the Swiss Open last year and will boost her confidence going forward.

Sindhu’s best performance in 2025 has been reaching the quarterfinals at the India Open. Despite training under Indonesian coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama for the past six months, the star Indian shuttler has been experiencing a significant slump in form. She has faced numerous early exits, including a recent loss to Korea’s Sim Yu Jin, marking her fifth first-round exit this year.
