Punjab School Holidays: The Punjab government has announced the closure of all government, government-aided, and private schools, colleges, universities, and polytechnics across the state until September 7, 2025. Due to severe weather conditions, educational institutions will remain closed until Sunday.
State Education Minister Harjot Bains shared this update on his official X account, stating, “As directed by Hon’ble CM Punjab Sh. Bhagwant Singh Mann Ji, in view of the flood situation, all Govt/Aided/Recognized & Private Schools, Colleges, Universities & Polytechnics across Punjab will remain closed till 7th Sept 2025. Everyone is requested to strictly follow local administration’s guidelines.”

Previously, the government had announced closures until September 3, which has now been extended. Schools, colleges and educational institutions in the state have been closed since August-end due to heavy rains and floods.
The state is experiencing its worst floods in nearly four decades, with 29 fatalities reported in the 12 most affected districts. Rivers including Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi are flowing above danger marks.

The deluge has displaced lakhs of people, destroyed crops, and caused severe damage to property, infrastructure, and livestock. According to Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister S. Hardeep Singh Mundian, nearly 2.56 lakh people across 1,044 villages have been affected, with Gurdaspur being the worst-hit district, impacting 1.45 lakh residents. Other severely affected districts include Amritsar, Ferozepur, and Fazilka.
So far, 15,688 residents have been moved to safety, with the largest numbers from Gurdaspur (5,549), Ferozepur (3,321), Fazilka (2,049), Amritsar (1,700), Pathankot (1,139), and Hoshiarpur (1,052). The state has established 129 relief camps housing 7,144 people, with Ferozepur sheltering the most.
