Pierre Gasly has cemented his future with Alpine, signing a contract extension that will keep him with the French outfit until at least the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season.

Gasly joined Alpine ahead of the 2023 campaign after leaving AlphaTauri, marking a significant homecoming for the French driver.

Since then, he has collected two podium finishes and contributed to Alpine’s sixth-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship last year.

Although his current contract ran until the end of 2025, both parties moved early to secure a longer-term future, finalizing the extension in the lead-up to this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.

Alpine’s Vision for 2026 and Beyond

In a statement, Alpine highlighted the strategic importance of the deal:

“The deal reaffirms Pierre’s commitment to Alpine and cements Alpine’s belief in Pierre as the driver to lead the team into the new regulation era in 2026 and beyond, under the leadership of Flavio Briatore and with the full backing of Renault Group led by the new CEO François Provost.”

Gasly echoed that sentiment, saying his national pride plays a role in his decision:

“I’m thrilled to commit my long-term future to Alpine. As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French car company makes me feel very proud. Since I joined in 2023, I have always felt that this team is the right place to be for the future. We’re all in this together and I look forward to continuing this special story.”

Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore praised the continuity Gasly provides.

“Since I returned to the team, I have always stated how important it is to build and grow the competitiveness of BWT Alpine Formula One Team. We’re well prepared for the new era of Formula 1, beginning in 2026, and now we have our lead driver confirmed to bring us well into the future.”

The Open Seat Question

While Gasly’s position is now secure through 2028, uncertainty remains over who will partner him beyond this season.

Franco Colapinto currently occupies the second Alpine seat, but the team has not confirmed its long-term plans.
