Veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh has dedicated India’s Asia Cup 2025 hockey triumph to the victims of the devastating floods in his home state of Punjab, calling the victory “a tribute to their courage.”
The 33-year-old Olympic medallist, born into a farming family in Mithapur village near Jalandhar, played a crucial role in guiding India to a 4-1 win over South Korea in the final on Sunday.
The result not only ended India’s eight-year wait for the continental title but also secured a direct berth for the 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
India’s victory in Rajgir marked their fourth Asia Cup crown, following successes in Kuala Lumpur (2003), Chennai (2007), and Dhaka (2017).
With this win, India are now the second-most successful team in the competition, just behind five-time champions South Korea.

“I would like to dedicate this victory to the people of Punjab who are enduring the devastating floods with unimaginable strength and resilience,” Manpreet said after the win.
“This triumph is for every victim fighting to rebuild their life, and to the selfless volunteers who are working day and night to rescue, support, and rehabilitate those in need. Your spirit is our true inspiration, and this win is a tribute to the courage of Punjab.”
Punjab Reeling Under Historic Floods
Punjab has been grappling with one of its worst floods in decades, triggered by swollen rivers such as the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi after heavy rainfall in upstream Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Seasonal rivulets overflowing have worsened the disaster.
Officials confirmed on Sunday that many lives have been lost and crops spread across nearly 1.76 lakh hectares have been destroyed, devastating farming communities. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, Border Security Force, Punjab Police and district authorities.
