Despite a disappointing showdown with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, the legendary John Cena is still upbeat and looking to try and maximise his ongoing farewell run in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Hoping to give fans memories to cherish from his final set of matches inside the ring, Cena, on Monday, September 22, urged WWE COO Triple H (Paul Michael Levesque), for a rematch with AJ Styles at the forthcoming WWE Crown Jewel.
Taking to X before the Monday Night Raw hit the air, Cena surprised fans by teasing an exciting clash with AJ Styles. The 48-year-old requested Levesque to organise a rematch between the two great rivals at WWE’s next premier live event, the Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, on October 11, 2025.
An hour after Cena posted about the potential match, Styles accepted the challenge from the giant. Later on, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Levesque confirmed they will battle out supremacy in Western Australia one final time.
Triple H posted a promotional poster, which raised the excitement for the Crown Jewel in Perth through the roof.
Cena thanked Triple H for accepting his request, while calling his fans the “driving force” behind the arrangement as well. Cena lauded WWE for reading the pulse of the audience and understanding what is best for the company’s “business”.
I want to thank @TripleH for being flexible here and rewarding the true driving force behind #CenavsStyles .. the FANS! 2 posts over 10m views and so many of you let yourself be heard! #WWECrownJewel Perth and @AJStylesOrg you will get my everything. The rivalry between the legendary Cena and phenomenal Styles began in 2016 when AJ won the two wrestlers’ first-ever singles outing at Money in the Bank. He once again upstaged his much-fancied rival at SummerSlam two months later.
Cena, however, reinforced his great footing at the 2017 Royal Rumble, beating Styles in a WWE Championship face-off. He also dominated him at a SmackDown episode in early 2018.
Notably, in non-televised singles bouts, Cena maintains a whopping 16-1 lead against Styles. He has also won 12 of 13 contests with various partners in their tag team face-offs.
Styles has happier memories of coming up against Cena in the 29 multi-man matches, like the Triple Threat or Fatal 4 Way. He has a televised tally of 3-0 against Cena and a non-televised record of 21-1 in such matches.
The WWE has played up the rivalry quite extensively, with the two wrestlers only twice joining hands for a tag team tussle. Back in 2017, Cena and Styles defeated Rusev and Kevin Owens at the SmackDown before reuniting for a victory against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa at the blue brand dark main event in 2023.
