An eleven-year-old Argentine Chess prodigy sent shockwaves throughout the world as he romped his way to the title at the Legends and Prodigies 2025 tournament in Spain on Sunday.
Oro sealed the title with a round to spare as the 11-year-old finished the event unbeaten with a tally of 7.5 points out of a possible 9 to claim his first norm.

The triumph took Oro’s performance rating to 2759, the highest ever rating for a player under the age of 12 years. Oro’s projected FIDE ranking for October reads at 2509, which would make him the youngest player under the age to breach the 2500-mark.
Oro went past Pragg’s record set in September of 2017 with his showing and also stands in line to shatter another one of the Indian GM’s records for the highest rating achieved by a player before turning 12.
Oro got the better of Pedro Martinez in the penultimate round of the event in the Spanish Capital city of Madrid to lock down the crown before closing out the event with a draw against Julio Granda, who finished joint second alongside Alan Pichot.
Oro was a point and a half clear of the chasing pack and has nearly four months to break the record for becoming the youngest GM, bettering the record set by Indian Abhimanyu Mishra.

“He’s a genius, and it shouldn’t matter if he achieves the Grandmaster title in record time,” said Oro’s coach Jorge Rosito expressing his delight with the youngster’s talent and progress.
“Fausti’s emergence is an achievement for Argentine Chess, for those of us who love the game and who, for the first time in history, have hope of seeing Argentina in the chess elite,” the coach added.
