AIFF to hold a Special General Body meeting on October 12 to adopt the draft Constitution as per Supreme Court and FIFA directives, introducing age and tenure limits for officials.

New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has scheduled a Special General Body meeting on October 12 to adopt the draft Constitution and other amendments in accordance with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
The world football governing body, FIFA, has set an October 30 deadline for the AIFF to adopt the new Constitution.
“The SGM has been called for special agenda. It has been just to adopt the Constitution, and there is no other agenda,” a top AIFF official was quoted as saying to PTI on Sunday.
The SGM will take place in the national capital, where the AIFF is headquartered.
What Is In AIFF Draft Constitution?
On September 19, the Supreme Court approved the draft constitution of the AIFF, prepared by former apex court judge L Nageswara Rao, with certain modifications, and instructed the football body to adopt it within four weeks during a general body meeting.
The draft constitution, prepared by Justice Rao under the directions of the top court, proposed significant changes, including limiting a person to a maximum of 12 years in office, subject to serving a maximum of two consecutive terms of four years each.
Additionally, it mandated a four-year cooling-off period after eight years as an office bearer of the sports body and stated that a person could not remain a member of the sports body after turning 70 years old.
Under the draft constitution, the AIFF’s executive committee would consist of 14 members, all subject to age and tenure restrictions.
The committee would include one president, two vice presidents (one man and one woman), one treasurer, and 10 other members.
Of the 10 other members, five would be eminent players, including two women.
The draft constitution also includes provisions for the removal of office bearers, including the president, through a no-confidence motion, which the existing AIFF constitution does not have.
