Vinicius’ brace and Mbappe’s lage goal helped Madrid coast to a 3-1 win at home against Villarreal, who grabbed a consolation through Georges Mikautadze.

Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid coasted to a 3-1 win over Villarreal on Saturday a the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday to provisionally go to the top of the table.
Vinicius Junior opened he scoring in the 47th minute before doubling his side’s lead in the 69th minute from the spot. Georges Mikautadze pulled one back for Villarreal, but Kylian Mbappe put the result beyond doubt with a goal nine minutes from time.

After scoring in the 81st minute, Mbappé sat down and held his right ankle. The French star then signaled with his hands that he could not continue. After brief treatment, he walked off unaided and headed straight down the tunnel.
The victory moved Madrid two points above defending champion Barcelona, which can reclaim the lead with a win at Sevilla on Sunday. However, Barcelona is missing star winger Lamine Yamal due to a pubic injury.
Vinícius scored in the 47th minute, cutting in from the left and seeing his low strike clip the heel of Santi Comesaña before wrong-footing goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.
Vinícius netted from the penalty spot in the 69th minute after being barged over. Although Mbappé is Madrid’s usual penalty taker, he allowed Vinícius to take it, and Vinícius squeezed a tame shot under Tenas’s body as the keeper guessed correctly.
Villarreal winger Georges Mikautadze pulled a goal back with a fine shot past Courtois from 20 meters.
However, Villarreal’s efforts were undone when defender Santiago Mouriño was sent off four minutes later for a second yellow card following a foul on Vinícius.
Villarreal then lost the ball carelessly, allowing Mbappé to swap passes with Brahim Díaz before scoring his 14th goal in 10 games.
