Hyundai Venue diesel sales expected to rise with new automatic option

Hyundai Venue diesel sales expected to rise with new automatic option

The launch of the new Hyundai Venue marks a first for the compact SUV in its 6-year history – the option of a diesel-automatic powertrain. Despite the previous-gen model and its facelift that came in 2022 only having a manual gearbox for the 1.5-litre diesel engine, this configuration accounted for 20 percent of the compact SUV’s sales so far.

  1. Hyundai Venue wholesales crossed 7 lakh milestone in September
  2. No Hyundai Venue CNG expected

Hyundai Venue petrol vs diesel sales split

80 percent of Venues sold have a 1.2 petrol or a 1.0 turbo-petrol engine

Domestic wholesales of the Venue crossed 7 lakh units at the beginning of September, with diesels contributing 1.4 lakh units. Venue petrol and turbo-petrol variants, meanwhile, had an 80 percent share with about 5.6 lakh units.

Interestingly, the petrol-to-diesel sales split of the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which offers diesel-manual and diesel-automatic options, is about 70:30.

Now, with the introduction of the Venue diesel-automatic in two variants – mid-spec HX5 (Rs 11.58 lakh) and top-spec HX10 (Rs 15.51 lakh) – sales of the diesel version are expected to increase to 30 percent.

Hyundai Venue CNG not on the cards

Hyundai has also confirmed that while it offers CNG-powered versions of its smaller cars – the Grand i10 Nios, Exter and Aura – there are currently no plans to offer a Venue CNG. Many of the Venue’s rivals, such as the Maruti Fronx and Brezza, Toyota Taisor and Tata Nexon, offer factory-fit CNG options. Do note that the Nexon offers the widest range of powertrains and is the only compact SUV to provide both diesel and CNG versions. Renault and Nissan sell official dealer-level CNG kits for the Kiger and Magnite, respectively, with the Japanese brand having recently announced that its kits are compatible with the Magnite AMT variants as well.
