The Association of Indian Universities on Wednesday suspended the membership of Al-Falah University in Faridabad with immediate effect, days after the deadly blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, saying the institution does not appear to be in “good standing” as required under its bye-laws.
The decision, communicated through an official letter dated November 13, 2025, cited the university’s alleged involvement in media reports linked to the terror case.
Referring to its bylaws, the AIU said the action was taken as the institution “does not appear to be in good standing.”
“The membership of AIU accorded to Al-Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana, stands suspended with immediate effect,” the AIU said in a statement.
The university came under national scrutiny after it was revealed that Dr Umar Un Nabi, the prime suspect in the Red Fort blast, had ties with the institution, along with other accused individuals Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Sayeed.
Following the suspension, Al-Falah University has been barred from using the AIU name or logo in any of its operations and instructed to remove the logo from its official website immediately.
“Al-Falah University, Faridabad, Haryana, is not authorised to use the name or logo of AIU in any of its activities, and the AIU logo must be removed from the university’s official website forthwith,” the letter stated.
Earlier on Thursday, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) issued a show-cause notice to the Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology, Fatehpur, accusing it of falsely claiming NAAC accreditation for colleges run by the university.
Situated about 27 km from the Delhi-Haryana border on Raga Road in Dhauj, Al-Falah University has drawn national attention in recent days following the Red Fort blast, which killed 12 people and injured dozens, and led to the recovery of large quantities of explosives during the subsequent probe.
