The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has published the interview list for 20,500 candidates who passed the teacher recruitment test for classes 11 and 12 in state-run and state-aided higher secondary schools. The test took place on September 14.
A senior SSC official confirmed that the list, containing names and roll numbers, is available on the WBSSC website and a helpline portal. The official stated, “Around 20,500 candidates have been called for the interview following mandatory verification.”
The interview list was based on three criteria: candidates’ scores in the written test (60 marks), teaching experience (10 marks), and eligibility (10 marks). Interviews will be conducted at a ratio of 1:1.6, meaning for every 100 posts in each subject, 160 candidates will be interviewed.
The written test on September 14 was held across 478 centres for 35 subjects, each worth 60 marks. The official mentioned that many ‘untainted’ candidates from the 2016 test, among the 26,000 whose jobs were annulled by an April 3 Supreme Court order, are included in the interview list to fill 12,445 vacancies for classes 11-12.
The verification process before the interview will begin on November 18.
The WBSSC announced the results of the SLST exam held on September 14, 2025, to fill positions after the Supreme Court cancelled 25,753 school jobs. The written exam aimed to recruit higher secondary teachers and will fill 12,514 vacancies. The commission will interview 160 candidates for every 100 vacancies.
Candidates can check the WBSSC SLST 2025 results on the official website, westbengalssc.com. The results, published in PDF format, contain the roll numbers of candidates who cleared the written exam and are eligible for the interview round.
The final merit list will be released based on candidates’ performance in both the written exam and interview. Selected candidates will then undergo document verification before receiving final appointment letters.
Both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court declared the 2016 recruitment process corrupt and illegal, leading to the cancellation of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching positions. The involvement of several prominent politicians and the former education minister in the scam has raised serious concerns about the state’s education system.
Following strict court directives, the commission was instructed to publish separate lists of tainted and innocent candidates. The Supreme Court also ordered the cancellation of the entire 2016 panel and mandated the completion of the new recruitment process by December 31, 2025. The teacher recruitment scam had sparked a major political controversy in West Bengal.
