Sir Alex Ferguson — the architect of Manchester United’s greatest era — has given his seal of approval to Ruben Amorim’s early work at Old Trafford, praising the club’s summer signings and the renewed sense of direction after a rocky start to the season.

Ferguson, who won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues across his 26 years in charge, has largely stayed out of day-to-day commentary since retiring in 2013. But with United finally showing signs of stability under Amorim, the legendary manager has stepped in to applaud the progress.

Amorim arrived in the summer of 2025 to steady a club spiraling through inconsistency. The opening weeks were filled with tactical confusion, poor form, and questions over whether he was the right man for a long-term rebuild.

But those doubts have eased as United have pieced together a five-match unbeaten run — three of those wins — lifting them to seventh and injecting optimism back into Carrington.

A major factor behind the turnaround has been Amorim’s new recruits: Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and goalkeeper Senne Lammens. And it’s this trio that Ferguson singled out.

Ferguson: “Particularly the goalkeeper—he’s been outstanding.”

“The manager has made good choices, especially the goalkeeper,” Ferguson told Raceday RTV. “He’s been exceptional. He’s only played three or four matches and he’s already very impressive.”

Lammens, signed for €21 million, has yet to lose a match in United colours, and his debut coincided directly with the team’s upturn. But Ferguson reserved praise for the attacking additions too.

“Mbeumo and Cunha have brought something extra,” he continued. “I hope Ruben will be successful, because at Manchester United, you have to win. And there are signs they’re heading in the right direction.”

Mbeumo, a €65 million arrival from Brentford, already has six goals in twelve games and was named Player of the Month. Cunha, Amorim’s first summer signing, has slotted seamlessly into the system and become a focal point of the new look attack.

With Amorim himself winning October’s Manager of the Month award, Ferguson’s public endorsement marks a significant moment for a club desperate to re-establish standards set during his reign.

United spent more than €225 million in the summer, but Ferguson made it clear which signing had changed the mood quickest.

“There are signs,” he said. “The goalkeeper has been outstanding… Back-to-back wins are something teams like United should expect. After waiting and being patient, they’ll enjoy it now.”

For the first time in months, maybe years, United look structured, confident and upwardly mobile.
