In response to ongoing student protests, Panjab University has postponed all exams scheduled from November 18 to 20. PU Controller of Examinations, Jagat Bhushan, announced that new dates for these exams will be communicated later, reported PTI. Students are advised to check the university’s official channels for updates.
The protests focus on demanding the announcement of Senate poll dates. Students have vowed to boycott exams until the poll schedule is released and have threatened to prevent the exams from occurring if their demand is not met, the report added. Several political parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress and farmers’ bodies such as the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, SKM (Non-Political), Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha, have extended their support to the students’ agitation.
On November 12, student representatives met with the varsity vice-chancellor, who assured them that the Senate poll schedule, pending the chancellor’s approval, would soon be finalised. Ashmeet Singh, PUCSC vice-president, reiterated that their protest would continue until their main demand is met.

However, the Ministry of Education retracted its notification to change the composition of the Panjab University Senate and Syndicate on November 7, following pressure from political leaders and students.
Despite this, the students have refused to end their protest, calling for a “university shutdown” to push for Senate election dates, which have been pending for over a year.
SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal urged all political and social organisations to unite in support of the university. After meeting the students, Badal emphasised the emotional significance of Panjab University to the state and warned against centralisng the institution. He announced that an SAD-led delegation would meet with the vice president of India to seek intervention.
