Hyundai has released design sketches of the Crater concept, an extreme off-road vehicle, ahead of its global debut on November 20 at the LA Auto Show 2025. Hyundai says that the concept’s design aligns with other robustly designed Hyundai SUVs from its lineup, such as the Ioniq 5 XRT, Santa Cruz XRT, and Palisade XRT PRO, which are rugged versions of their standard models, and was developed at the Hyundai America Technical Center (HATCI) in Irvine, USA.

Gets a robustly designed exterior and raised ride height.

From the design sketches, we can see that the Crater concept sports rugged styling. The front bumper gets a dual-tone treatment, with a thick scuff plate. The bonnet also gets muscular lines and a dual-tone finish. There is a closed-off grille with pixelated theme lighting that Hyundai calls ‘parametric pixel lights,’ similar to the likes of those on the IONIQ 5, with an LED lighting element that, in Morse code, denotes the letter ‘H’ on the nose. Also present is a thick black strip separating the bumper and the grille.
The side profile sketches reveal an upright stance with raised ground clearance, large off-road tyres, thick side body cladding, and sharp window lines. There’s roof-mounted lighting along with a roof rack to carry equipment.

At the back is a raked windscreen, pixel-like LED tail lamp elements with the ’H’ letter denoted in Morse code in the centre of the tailgate, just like the front end. The rear bumpers also get a dual-tone treatment and thick scuff plates. Similar to the front, there’s a black strip separating the tailgate and the bumpers.
Earlier this year, Hyundai revealed plans to launch 26 new products in India by 2030. While it is uncertain whether the production-spec Crater SUV would make it here, the concept gives a glimpse of what Hyundai’s contender for an off-road SUV in India could look like.
