Nagpur: Rana Pratap Nagar police have registered a cheating case against two persons for allegedly duping a city-based builder and his associates of Rs2.18 crore on the pretext of doubling their money through stock market investments.The complainant, Kapilkumar Meshram, who runs a construction firm, Sanrachana Associate, met the accused — Manoj Nandanwar and Vijay Mahurle — during a property deal. The duo allegedly claimed that they, along with Nandanwar’s wife, were earning high returns through commodities, futures and options, and share trading, and promised 100% profit within six months.Meshram initially invested Rs38 lakh and was given a post-dated cheque of Rs76 lakh. Later, trusting the accused further, he and his relatives and friends together handed over Rs2.18 crore. The accused issued post-dated cheques for double the invested amount but neither returned the money nor honoured the cheques.A case has been registered under Sections 316(2), 318(4), 3(5) of the BNS and Section 3 of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act, 1999. Investigation is underway.
