Nancy Tyagi styles Tyla in sari-inspired ensemble and bindi for her India visit: ‘Twin stayed up all night designing and hand-making this’

Of all the collaborations we expected this year, Nancy Tyagi x Tyla wasn’t on our 2025 bingo card! For her first visit to India, the South African singer and songwriter slipped into a sari-inspired look crafted by the self-made designer. “SAY YOU LUV ME PUT ME IN @nancytyagi___” read Tyla’s Instagram caption, a few hours before the pop and R&B icon took over Mumbai last night with an electrifying performance. “Went to India for the first time 🌀twin stayed up all night designing and hand-making this Saree inspired look 4 me…She is insane 💋 ilyyyy,” Tyla added while sharing snippets from her visit to the country.

Decoding the outfit

The outfit featured a sparkly silver bralette paired with a sheer gauzy drape styled like a sari. Matching silver jewels adorned her neck, wrists and ears, while rhinestone embellished high heels were her accessories of choice. Side-parted hair, dewy makeup and hydrated skin completed her look.

Taking to social media, Nancy Tyagi shared that creating this saree-inspired look for Tyla was such a beautiful experience for her. “I wanted to bring together the best of Indian heritage and her bold sense of style into one silhouette. It felt like a quiet intersection of cultures, coming alive through couture and intention. Tyla’s warmth made the process even more special, she was truly the sweetest through the entire process. Thank you @tyla, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting me. I love you so much ❤️🌹,” she noted on Instagram.

From designing outfits in the confines of her room, making it to the Cannes red carpet, and now designing for global icons, Tyagi has undoubtedly come a long way.

For the concert last night, Tyla chose a green, pink and black sequinned two-piece ensemble, with black high boots and her signature bangs. The back of her hair sported the letters making up the word Mumbai, in homage to the city she was performing in. That’s not all: Tyagi even took the time to put on a sparkly silver bindi on her forehead, which she continued to wear till the end of her performance.

Who is Tyla?

The act was a symbol of solidarity and a spotlight on elements of our culture, which, surprisingly, the singer shares as well. Tyla’s ancestry has roots in India. While her mother is half Zulu, half Irish, her father is Indian, with roots in Mauritius. Tyla’s popularity first stemmed from a viral dance challenge to her song “Water” on TikTok and Instagram, which reached the top 10 in countries like the US, UK, and South Africa.
