The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET), scheduled to be held on January 29 and 30, 2026, has been postponed. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the newly appointed commission chairman, former IPS officer Dr Prashant Kumar, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPSESSB) said.

Exam officials said the postponement is due to administrative and technical reasons. As of now, no new dates have been announced. The commission has stated that the revised schedule for UP TET 2025 will be released soon on the official website.

This is not the first time the UP TET exam has been postponed. The board said it is reviewing existing exam schedules to ensure smoother and more transparent conduct of examinations in the state.

During the meeting, the commission decided to prepare a comprehensive exam calendar covering all pending recruitment and eligibility tests. This will include the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) and UP TET examinations. The new calendar will be finalised after reviewing the schedules of other examination bodies and institutions to avoid clashes.

Once the new exam calendar is released, fresh dates for UP TET and other exams will be officially announced.

Over 15 lakh Candidates affected

The postponement has impacted a large number of aspirants, as more than 15 lakh candidates had applied for the UP TET exam. The examination was being conducted after a gap of four years, raising high expectations among teaching aspirants. Candidates will now have to wait longer for the revised exam schedule.

Dr Prashant Kumar, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, was recently appointed as the chairman of the Education Service Selection Commission. Following his appointment, there were indications that conducting exams on previously announced dates might not be feasible. The commission has reiterated its focus on transparent and fair examination processes.
