In a major relief for millions of students, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to roll out free online mathematics and science education for secondary school students through the globally popular Khan Academy. The initiative will be implemented statewide under the STEM programme (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with the aim of strengthening secondary education.
Under the scheme, students from Classes 9 to 12 will be able to access high-quality digital lessons in mathematics and science from the comfort of their homes. Until now, the facility was limited to government secondary schools. The latest decision expands its reach to aided and self-financed institutions as well, ensuring that students in private schools also receive equal access to free learning resources.
Officials said the programme will offer NCERT-based content in Hindi, including video lectures, concept-driven animations, quizzes and unit tests. The material has been designed to help students grasp complex topics through simple explanations and step-by-step methods, making traditionally challenging subjects like mathematics and science more engaging and easier to understand.
The initiative is expected to particularly benefit average and slow learners, as Khan Academy’s teaching modules focus on clarity and practice-based learning. Beyond students, teachers will also receive digital teaching support, enabling them to integrate online resources more effectively with classroom instruction. The move is seen as a step towards blending traditional teaching methods with digital learning tools, thereby improving overall learning outcomes.
