
UK consumer card spending rose 0.8 per cent YoY in January 2026, remaining below inflation of 3.6 per cent.
Retail rose 1.7 per cent, driven by online sales, which increased 5.7 per cent.
Essential spending fell 1.1 per cent for a sixth month, while non-essential spending grew 1.6 per cent.
Consumer confidence remained stable, with expectations of easing inflation supporting spending prospects.
