The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) held the Class 10 Mathematics examination on the first day of the board exams. Students appeared for both the Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Basic papers. Teachers said the questions were largely from the NCERT syllabus, though time management was important for many students.
Standard Mathematics Paper Analysis
Varun Goel, Head of Department, Mathematics at Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram, said the Mathematics Standard (041) question paper was well balanced and appropriately challenging. He noted that it closely followed the NCERT curriculum, with nearly 70 percent of the questions taken directly from textbook exercises and familiar formats. According to him, students who prepared thoroughly from NCERT found the paper comfortable and accessible.
He said the paper included direct questions such as proof of the Basic Proportionality Theorem, properties of cyclic quadrilaterals, concepts related to tangents and radii, and calculation of the median and mode of grouped data. There was also an application based trigonometry question to check conceptual clarity. Case study questions, including a competency based question from Arithmetic Progressions, tested analytical thinking and problem solving. He rated the paper “Good”.
Karan Pal, TGT Mathematics at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow, described the paper as moderate in difficulty. He said the conceptual level remained within the NCERT framework, but the main challenge for students was time management. According to him, the paper tested speed, accuracy and analytical depth. Section A and Section B were easy, Section C had some NCERT based questions and was relatively easy, while Sections D and E required more time to understand before solving.

Basic Mathematics Paper Analysis
Teachers said the Mathematics Basic (241) paper was aligned with the NCERT syllabus and focused on foundational understanding. Varun Goel said around 60 percent of the questions were based on direct textbook concepts, allowing students familiar with NCERT to attempt the paper easily. However, he pointed out that some questions from Quadratic Equations, Areas Related to Circles and the Arithmetic Progressions case study were lengthy and required detailed working. He rated the paper “Average” and noted that it was comparatively more time consuming than the Standard paper.
Karan Pal described the Basic paper as easy to moderate. He said the paper mainly required direct application of NCERT formulas and concepts, though a few questions in later sections needed careful understanding and practical application.
Overall, teachers said both papers stayed within the prescribed syllabus and assessed conceptual understanding without going beyond the NCERT framework.
