The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) class 12 chemistry paper has reportedly been shared on social media. Police are investigating a possible leak after the class 12 Chemistry question paper was allegedly circulated on social media in Nagpur before the board exam was conducted by the Maharashtra board, officials said on Saturday.

This is not the first time that irregularities have been reported in the MSBSHSE HSC board exams 2026. On February 12, an incident of alleged mass cheating occurred during a Class 12 examination in Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar. Despite the presence of CCTV cameras, students were reportedly copying inside the examination hall. The entire incident was captured on camera, raising concerns about supervision and the conduct of the exam at the centre. CCTV footage shows students writing papers and openly cheating from each other’s answer sheets in the presence of teachers.

The board had earlier stated that cases will be registered under the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices Act, 1982 against anyone involved in unfair practices at exam centres.

The Maharashtra Board began the class 12 board examinations for 2026 on February 10, with the exams continuing until March 11. The exams are conducted in two daily sessions: the first from 11 am to 2 pm and the second from 3 pm to 6 pm. Over 15 lakh students have registered for the HSC exams across science, arts, commerce, vocational, and TechSci streams. Specifically, there are 7,99,773 students in science, 3,80,692 in arts, 3,20,152 in commerce, 27,378 in vocational, and 4,492 in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI). In terms of gender distribution, there are 8,20,229 male candidates, 7,12,240 female candidates, and 18 transgender candidates.

To prevent malpractice, the board had earlier said that state-level vigilance committee and monitoring teams will be present at all centres. A total of 271 flying squads were to be deployed across the state. District-level vigilance committees led by the District Collector and special squads from divisional boards were to conduct surprise inspections. Xerox shops within a 500-metre radius of exam centres were directed to remain closed during the exam period, extending the usual restriction from 100 metres.
