The test mule’s cabin has elements borrowed from the second-gen Venue. These include dual curved screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster, as well as a new steering wheel design that could feature the ‘H’ letter in Morse code. In terms of features, the new-gen i20 could offer a 360-degree camera and ADAS capability, as seen on the Venue.

It is expected that the new i20 will continue to offer a sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, a dashcam, connected car tech, drive modes and ambient lighting.

As for the exterior, the heavily camouflaged test mule shows LED headlamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) and also hints at a new grille design. The alloy wheels feature a new dual-tone design with a star pattern. At the back, there’s a raked windscreen, LED tail-lamps and a high-mounted stop lamp.

New-gen Hyundai i20: Expected powertrains

Could likely get a strong-hybrid engine

Expect the new-gen i20 to retain the current model’s 88hp/115Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox. Meanwhile, the N Line version could retain the 120hp/172Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. In 2025, Hyundai announced plans to bring 8 hybrid models here, with the i20 likely being one of them. The carmaker is developing a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which could be hybridised and power the new-gen i20.

The new-gen i20 could be priced higher than the current-gen model. For reference, the ex-showroom prices for the current i20, including the N Line, range between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 11.67 lakh. The new-gen i20 will continue to rival the Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza
