The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) Odisha has introduced improvement exams starting this year. This allows students in their second year of higher secondary education under CHSE to retake one subject to enhance their marks. The CHSE examination committee approved this decision in a meeting on Monday, and it will be effective from the current academic year, reported Indian Express.
Prashant Kumar Parida, the controller of examination at CHSE, stated that students wishing to improve their score in any one subject, for any reason, will be permitted to reappear in that specific subject. However, it is to be noted that this opportunity is available only to students who have passed the 12th exams. The results of the improvement examination will be announced within two months.
The Odisha Plus 2 improvement exam will be conducted simultaneously with the instant examination or supplementary exams held every year after the completion of the AHSE.
This follows CBSE which has introduced a two-term examination system for Class 10, starting from the 2026 academic year. While CBSE permits improvement exams in three subjects, CHSE currently allows this for only one subject. Similarly, boards in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Haryana will also conduct two board exams from this year. Karnataka has been administering three board exams since 2024.
Meanwhile, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, is expected to declare the Class 10 results in the second week of May 2026. The Class 10 board exams were conducted from February 19 to March 2, 2026. The papers were held in a single shift from 10 am to 12.30 pm.
The evaluation of OMR sheets has already begun. Checking of subjective answer papers will start from March 19, 2026. Around 15,000 teachers will be involved in the evaluation process. This year, more than 5.61 lakh students appeared for the Odisha Board Class 10 examination. The exam was conducted at 3,082 centres across the state.
