CFMoto has had a rather busy year, with the brand seemingly unveiling a new product every few months. Following the introduction of the 750SR-S in September and the debut of the V4-powered 1000 SR-RR at EICMA soon after, the latest addition to its future line-up appears to be another supersport – the 500SR – which has now surfaced through type-approval documents filed in China. The motorcycle shares its mechanical underpinnings with the retro-styled 500SR Voom but adopts full-fledged supersport styling in line with the rest of the SR model family.

The CFMoto 500SR is 7kg lighter than the Voom that it is based on
The 500SR was first previewed as a disguised prototype in 2023 alongside the 675SR-R. While the three-cylinder 675SR-R made it to production first, the 500SR appeared to have been sidelined in favour of the neo-retro 500SR Voom. However, these type-approval documents reveal that CFMoto has since undertaken a significant redesign of the model, which could explain the delay.
Under the skin, the 500SR is mechanically identical to the 500SR Voom, using the same tubular steel frame and 499cc inline-four engine that produces 79hp at 12,500rpm and 49Nm at 10,000rpm. The chassis setup also remains unchanged, featuring a 1,395mm wheelbase, 41mm adjustable USD forks, a monoshock and the same swingarm. The distinctive dual under-seat exhausts seem to have been carried over from the Voom.
However, the 500 SR ditches the Voom’s retro aesthetics for a design that aligns with CFMoto’s SR family, including the 675 SR-R, and the upcoming 750 SR-S and 1000 SR-RR. It features angular headlights with eyebrow-style DRLs in place of the Voom’s twin circular units, along with fairing-mounted mirrors instead of bar-end ones. According to the type-approval documents, the bike has a kerb weight of 187kg, making it 7kg lighter than the Voom.
There is no official timeline for when the 500SR could enter production, though it is likely to be offered primarily in select markets such as China and Australia, where the 500SR Voom is currently sold.
