KYT R1R details about safety, comfort and pricing

New high-end sporty lid sitting below the KX-1 Race GP

The R1R, in typical KYT fashion, has a sharp and angular design in keeping with its sporty orientation and the company claims the helmet has undergone over three years of wind tunnel testing. The R1R’s shell is a tricomposite one and combines carbon fibre, aramid fibre and fibreglass. Underneath the shell is a multi-density EPS liner which KYT claims offers ‘progressive energy absorption across different impact zones.’ KYT’s new R1R is available in three different shell sizes – S, M and L. A size M helmet weighs 1,550g which is about on par with other high-end helmets from reputed brands.

In terms of safety ratings, the R1R carries the latest ECE 22.06 homologation and is also certified to the current ISI standards. As is expected from a sporty helmet, the R1R comes with a secure double-D ring closure system. The R1R has multiple vents on the chin region, forehead as well as on the top of the rider’s head which work in conjunction with a passive vent at the back of the head to keep the rider cool. KYT uses something called Hydrocool technical fabric, which it claims is ‘engineered to rapidly dissipate heat, manage moisture, and maintain rider comfort during intense riding conditions.’ How well all this works in the Indian environment is something only a real-world review will be able to paint a clear picture of.

The R1R’s visor has a sturdy metal alloy lock, borrowed directly from the MotoGP grid, which should ensure it doesn’t open in the event of a crash. The visor offers 210-degree horizontal and 90-degree vertical fields of view and is Pinlock compatible. A Pinlock 70 antifog insert can be fitted to the R1R, although it is sold separately. There are various shades of tinted visors also available at extra cost.

The KYT R1R’s price starts at Rs 39,000 for the standard model while the Carbon models and racer replica graphics cost slightly more, at Rs 43,500. The R1R sits above the NZ Race in KYT’s lineup but below the KX-1 Race GP. The helmet is now available across authorised KYT dealers nationwide and its best to reach out to your nearest dealership for sizing and availability.
