The Bovensiepen family’s first model as an independent boutique carmaker, the Zagato coupe, will cost nearly four times the BMW M4 it’s based on, Autocar UK has reported. Limited to just 99 units globally, it was first shown at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy last year and is named after the Italian design house responsible for its styling. The Zagato is based on the BMW M4 but features considerable changes to its design and mechanical setup.

Bovensiepen Zagato: Price and positioning
The Bovensiepen Zagato is priced in Germany from €3,69,495 (around Rs 4.07 crore), making it nearly four times as expensive as the BMW M4 it is based on.
At this price in Germany, it sits alongside models such as the Ferrari Purosangue while also exceeding traditional grand tourers like the Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin Vanquish and Ferrari Amalfi, despite using a smaller six-cylinder engine. It also becomes the most expensive model associated with the Bovensiepen family to date, surpassing even rare Alpina cars from the past.
The model also marks a shift for the Bovensiepen family following the sale of Alpina to BMW. With Alpina now under BMW’s ownership, future Alpina models are expected to be positioned as more performance-oriented, comfort-focused alternatives within BMW’s line-up, sitting above standard models but distinct from M performance cars. BMW is expected to reintroduce Alpina models starting with the 7 Series and X7, positioning them as luxury-focused derivatives with an emphasis on bespoke finishes.
Bovensiepen Zagato: Engine and performance
The Zagato is powered by a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing 611hp and 700Nm of torque. Bovensiepen claims a 0-100kph time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of over 300kph.
The car also gets bespoke Bilstein dampers with Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes, along with a lightweight titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic, which is said to be around 40 percent lighter than a standard setup.
Bovensiepen Zagato: Design and construction
While based on the M4, the Zagato features extensive changes, including new front and rear sections, a reshaped bonnet, a revised side profile and Zagato’s signature double-bubble roof.
The car uses a large number of bespoke components, many made from carbon fibre. Bovensiepen says over 250 hours are spent on handcrafted elements for each unit at its facility in Buchloe, Germany.
The Zagato measures 4,943mm in length, 1,913mm in width and 1,394mm in height, making it 142mm longer and 5mm lower than the BMW M4.
Bovensiepen Zagato: Interior and customisation
Each car will be built to order, with a high degree of personalisation available. Bovensiepen said: “Every customer request is implemented down to the smallest detail in our workshop.” The optional Lavalina leather interior alone requires over 130 hours of work. Customers can also choose finishes for exterior carbon-fibre elements and brake calipers.
Deliveries of the Bovensiepen Zagato are expected to begin later this year, with each unit individually configured by customers.
