Tristan Boyer’s fiery meltdown in Italy — a racket-smashing outburst — once again overshadows the American’s tennis struggles.

Tristan Boyer’s temper, not his tennis, is what’s making the loudest noise.
The American’s campaign hit another low on Monday at the Francavilla al Mare Open, where a dramatic on-court meltdown overshadowed his early-round exit.
Facing teenage qualifier Daniele Rapagnetta, ranked No. 938 in the world, Boyer entered the Round of 32 clash as the clear favourite. But things quickly unravelled.
After dropping the opening set, he was broken again to fall 6–5 behind in the second, and that’s when frustration boiled over.
The 25-year-old began repeatedly smashing his racket into the court in anger. An initial warning from the chair umpire did little to calm him down. Instead, the outburst escalated, resulting in a game penalty for racket abuse, effectively handing Rapagnetta a shock victory.
But Boyer wasn’t done.

He launched into a tirade at the umpire, hurling a string of expletives before snapping another racket — this time against the official’s chair.
Moments later, he smashed more equipment on a courtside bench before storming off and slamming the exit door behind him.
Boyer’s Angst-Riddled History
Boyer had similar issues at the San Diego Open last year, where a time violation sparked another angry outburst, complete with racket destruction and an abrupt walk-off.

On the court, his latest results haven’t helped his cause.
After hovering just outside the top 100 as recently as September, Boyer has struggled for momentum in 2026, managing just one ATP Tour-level win and three victories on the Challenger circuit.
