Bajaj Chetak crosses 7 lakh cumulative sales – Introduction

The Bajaj Chetak has crossed the 7 lakh cumulative sales milestone in India, becoming only the third electric two-wheeler brand to achieve the feat after Ola Electric and TVS Motor Company.

  1. Bajaj Chetak’s cumulative sales stand at 7,27,779 units
  2. FY2026 sales rose 25 percent to 2,98,436 units
  3. Bajaj’s share in e-scooter market was only 4 percent in FY2023

Bajaj Chetak sales growth explained

79 percent of total sales came in the last two years

According to Vahan data, cumulative retail sales of the Bajaj Chetak between FY2021 and May 6, 2026, stand at 7,27,779 units. Of this, nearly 5,77,023 units have been sold since FY2025, highlighting the sharp rise in demand over the last two years.

While the Chetak had a relatively slow start in its initial years, volumes rose significantly in FY2025 to 2,39,087 units, up 114 percent over FY2024’s 1,11,713 units. This helped the brand become the third-largest electric two-wheeler OEM in the country during the fiscal year.

FY2026 saw sales rise further to 2,98,436 units, an increase of 25 percent over the preceding year. This also marked the first time Bajaj Auto finished a fiscal year as the second-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India.

The rise in volumes has also translated into stronger market share gains for the Chetak. Bajaj Auto held a 4 percent share of India’s electric two-wheeler market in FY2023, increasing it to 11 percent in FY2024 before nearly doubling it to 20 percent in FY2025. The company maintained the same share in FY2026.

Early FY2027 trends indicate further growth. Between April 1 and May 6, 2026, Bajaj Auto retailed around 39,500 electric two-wheelers, capturing a 22 percent market share. During the same period, TVS Motor Co sold 45,186 units, while Ather Energy retailed 32,434 units and Hero Vida accounted for 18,112 units.

Bajaj Auto recently updated the Chetak range with revised ‘C Series’ naming, additional features and higher top speeds as competition in the electric scooter segment continues to intensify.
