AMANN partners Resortecs on dissolvable sewing threads

As already sneak-previewed at Texprocess Fair, which took place from 21-24 April in 2026 in Frankfurt, the German sewing thread manufacturer AMANN Group partners with the Belgian company Resortecs in production of heat-dissolvable sewing threads following the design-for-disassembly approach.

For decades, garments have been designed to last, but never to come apart. Now, the two companies are bringing design-for-disassembly to industrial scale, embedding circularity directly into the way garments are made.

AMANN Group has partnered with Belgium’s Resortecs to industrialise heat-dissolvable Smart Stitch sewing threads, enabling automatic garment disassembly and high-grade textile recycling at scale.
The collaboration advances design-for-disassembly in fashion, while AMANN also introduced biodegradable AeoniQ Fil and other sustainable thread innovations at Texprocess 2026.

As an eco-design front runner, Resortecs makes textile recycling easy through innovative design-for-disassembly technology and by connecting brands, sorters, and recyclers.

The target with the partnership between AMANN and Resortecs is to industrialize Design-for-Disassembly in fashion using Resortecs’ Smart Stitch heat-dissolvable sewing threads. This integrates circularity, enabling automatic garment disassembly, optimizing material recovery, and high-grade recycling at scale.

With Smart Stitch sewing threads, engineered by Resortecs, now produced by AMANN, brands can integrate design-for-disassembly into their products without changing how they design, source, produce, or perform. The heat-dissolvable sewing threads allow easy disassembly and more efficient downstream processing.
This also opens new possibilities across the product lifecycle: garments can be repaired, components can be reused, and unsold or returned products can be recovered and reintegrated into new value streams.

Garments stitched with Smart Stitch can be disassembled on an industrial scale thanks to Smart Disassembly, a low-emissions thermal disassembly system enabling to recover up to 90 per cent of clothing’s fabric.

Next to Smart Stitch AMANN has also launched another sustainable sewing thread: AeoniQ Fil is a biodegradable sewing and embroidery thread made from renewable cellulose fibres. The solution is designed for cellulose-based textiles and supports monomaterial designs, as it eliminates the need for synthetic seams. This can simplify recycling and end-of-life processes – an issue that is becoming increasingly important in the textile industry.

Both products offer concrete solutions rather than abstract promises of sustainability. They address various ways of driving change within the industry – from circularity at the material level to improved recyclability at the end of the product lifecycle.

“For us, these are future technologies in a market that is currently undergoing a transformation. We need to understand early on how materials, processes and circular economy principles are evolving, take the first steps together with our customers, and establish a presence in these emerging markets. This requires strong partners – as in the case of Smart Stitch Resortecs. It is only through such partnerships that solutions can be realised which are not only technologically exciting but also make a difference in practice”, says Ivo Herzog, Chief Sustainability & Innovation Officer (CSIO) of the AMANN Group.

The innovation portfolio is complemented by further high-performance new releases:

Sera & Isa Reflect, retroreflective sewing and embroidery threads for enhanced visibility; Saba evo, a premium sewing thread for particularly uniform seams in high-quality applications; and Isacord Recycled UV, an embroidery thread with exceptional UV resistance for durable and sustainable embroidery in outdoor applications. Waterfil is another addition to the range: a water-soluble sewing thread designed for temporary seams.
Together, these innovations underline AMANN’s commitment to combining technological excellence, the highest standards of processing quality and responsible product development.
