The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a clarification after several students and parents raised complaints over unusual fee deductions and payment-related glitches during the Class 10 and 12 post-result process.

In a notice released on Saturday, the board said technical issues on May 21 and 22 led to incorrect fee deductions while students were applying for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets. According to CBSE, some candidates were charged more than the prescribed amount, while others were charged less.

The board has now assured that all excess payments will be refunded automatically to the same payment method used during the transaction. In cases where lesser amounts were deducted, students will be informed separately if any balance payment is required.

CBSE further clarified that scanned copies of evaluated answer books will be provided to all affected students and that they will not be required to submit fresh applications.

Earlier, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had taken cognisance of the matter and sought a report from CBSE over complaints related to technical failures during the re-evaluation process.

Sources said the Education Ministry asked CBSE officials to explain the reasons behind the glitches, the preparedness measures in place and the accountability of the agencies handling the online process.

The issue surfaced after several Class 10 and 12 students reported failed transactions, website crashes and delays while applying for verification of marks and re-evaluation after the declaration of board results earlier this month.

Students also alleged that abnormal fee amounts began appearing on the portal while applying for photocopies of evaluated answer sheets. Under CBSE rules, students are required to pay Rs 100 per subject for scanned copies. However, many users claimed the displayed fee changed sharply within hours.

Screenshots shared on social media showed amounts ranging from a few rupees to unusually high figures such as Rs 8,000, Rs 67,000 and even Rs 69,420 per subject, triggering concern among students and parents over a possible technical malfunction.

Amid growing complaints, CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta on Friday announced that the deadline for applying for re-evaluation-related services had been extended by one day, from May 23 to May 24.
