With the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup looming large on the horizon, North America looks to put on a spectacle for the ages. The early celebrations are underway as USA, Canada and Mexico welcome the quadrennial back home. And the centrepiece of the special, the official match ball, the Trionda, pays homage to the three host nations.

Trionda translates to ‘three waves’, and is one of the most unique and innovative design features,

It celebrates the first time three host countries come together to in an ambitious effort to organise a 48-team World Cup with over a 100 games to be played.

The ball’s design features a red, green and blue colour scheme that pays homage to the three host countries, while a four-panel construction with fluid geometry replicates the waves, true to the name,

These panels connect to form a triangle in the centre of the ball in a nod to the historic union of the three host nations. It also displays iconographies that represents each host country, with an eagle for Mexico, maple leaf for Canada, and a star for the United States, while gold embellishments pay tribute to the glittering trophy.

Trionda showcases several advanced performance features. Its four-panel construction uses deliberately deep seams, creating a surface that delivers optimal in-flight stability by generating sufficient, evenly distributed drag as the ball moves through the air. In addition, embossed icons that are only visible at close range enhance grip when striking or dribbling the ball in wet or humid conditions.

Connected ball technology once again appears in the Official Match Ball of the FIFA World Cup, with a cutting-edge 500Hz motion sensor chip capturing detailed data on every aspect of the ball’s movement. This technology transmits precise information to the video assistant referee system in real time, improving match officials’ decision-making, including for offside situations.
