Inspired from Cilbir, I created this recipe for Turkish chicken that is so addictive, you will be making it over and over again. Healthy and high protein chicken dish made with greek yogurt sauce, topped with sautéed chicken and chilli garlic butter taste super satiating with pita bread.

The idea for this dish comes from the popular Turkish dish called as cilbir. It is made with poached eggs served over creamy yogurt sauce, drizzled with chilli butter. It is one of my all time favourite dish to make for breakfast.

I wanted to create a dish similar to that but more filling and high protein so I can have it for lunch or dinner. Hence this dish was born. I first shared this dish on my Instagram and everyone started asking for the recipe. So decided to shared on the blog as well.
About Turkish Chicken (Chicken with Greek Yogurt)
Looking for easy and high protein chicken dinner recipe, then this is the answer. What I like most about this recipe is, you can make the chicken filling, yogurt sauce, garlic butter upto 3 days in advance. At the time of serving, simply reheat and enjoy.
Turkish chicken literally translates to chicken with greek yogurt. It has 3 components. A garlic flavoured green yogurt sauce or dip, sautéed spiced chicken and chilli garlic butter. Together this makes one of the amazing dish you will ever make. And surprisingly it is so filling.
Turkish chicken is made with boneless chicken breast which is sautéed with fresh ginger, garlic and spice powders until cooked. Greek yogurt sauce is made by mixing yogurt with garlic, herbs and lemon juice.
The herbed garlic chilli butter makes this dish truly spectacular. You have to enjoy this with either kuboos or whole wheat pita.

Ingredients
- Chicken – I used boneless chicken breast for this dish. It is high in protein and stays super juicy even when stir fried.
- Spices – I used a combination of spice powders like chilli powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder for the chicken.
- Ginger and Garlic – it is added to the chicken to make it super flavourful. You can use paste or crush it yourselves.
- Olive Oil – good quality olive oil adds taste to the stir fried chicken.

- Coriander leaves – freshly chopped herbs adds unbelievable flavour to the dish.

Step by Step Pictures
1)Start by making the yogurt sauce. Take greek yogurt, garlic, coriander leaves, salt in a bowl.

2)Add fresh lemon juice. This is purely to taste.

3)Mix well till creamy and thick. Set aside till ready to serve. You can store this in fridge for 3 to 4 days.

4)Now let’s cook chicken. Heat olive oil in a pan, add in ginger garlic paste and stir fry for a minute till aromatic.

5)Add in chilli powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala powder.

6)Stir fry few seconds till spices toast.

7)Add in chopped chicken, salt into the spices.

8)Stir fry for 6 to 8 minutes until chicken is completely cooked.

9)Now in the end, add lemon juice and coriander leaves.

10)Mix well. Your stir fried chicken is ready.

11)Now let’s make chilli garlic butter. Heat butter and garlic in a sauce pan.

12)Cook until garlic gets golden brown.

13)Now add in chilli flakes, cumin powder and coriander leaves.

14)Mix well and set aside, this is your chilli garlic butter.

15)Now to assemble. Take a serving plate, spread 1 cup of yogurt sauce.

16)Top with half of the sautéed chicken and drizzle with half of the garlic butter.

17)Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with pita bread.

Expert Tips
- Use greek yogurt for this dish which makes creamy sauce. If you only have regular yogurt, just strain it for few hours through a cheesecloth.
- Amount of garlic used can be reduced as per your liking.
- I used salted butter for this dish. If you only have unsalted butter, you might need to add some salt.
- You can use boneless chicken breast or thigh. The cooking time may increase if you are using chicken thighs.
- You can use any herbs or spice powders in the chicken. Always taste and adjust the seasonings.
Serving and Storage
You can make the chicken filling, yogurt sauce, garlic butter upto 3 days in advance. At the time of serving, simply reheat and enjoy. Enjoy turkish chicken with pita bread.

Q: Why is it called as Turkish chicken?
This recipe is similar to the Turkish eggs, which consists of yogurt, poached egg and chilli butter. Hence the name.
Q: Can I use regular yogurt instead of greek yogurt?
Yes you can use regular yogurt. Make sure it is unsweetened and unflavoured. Strain the yogurt in a cheesecloth for few hours in fridge before using.
Q: Can I add any vegetables along with chicken?
Mushrooms, peppers, onions are good add on with chicken.
