NEET UG 2027: Under the CBT format, students will answer questions on a computer screen instead of marking answers on paper sheets.

NEET UG, the entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses, will be conducted completely in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from 2027, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had announced earlier. The new system will replace the current pen-and-paper format with OMR answer sheets. “The NEET examination will be conducted as a computer-based test instead of (on) OMR sheets,” he stated.
The minister said the change has been introduced to make the examination process more secure, transparent and efficient. While announcing the new format, Pradhan said that NEET UG would become a computer-based exam from the next cycle and that the traditional OMR-based system would no longer be used.
The exam is likely to be held over at least six days across more than 1,000 examination centres, according to sources, reported PTI. The exam next year would follow a model similar to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), with candidates taking the test over multiple days, sources told the news agency.
Under the CBT format, students will answer questions on a computer screen instead of marking answers on paper sheets. However, the exam pattern will remain the same. NEET UG will continue to have a total of 720 marks, with questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said the Centre remained fully prepared to discuss the NEET issue in Parliament and address concerns raised by students following protests by Rahul Gandhi, Sonam Wangchuk and CJP.
“Our Government remains 100% committed to discussing NEET and addressing every genuine concern of our youth on the floor of the House,” he said.
Pradhan said students should not be treated as “props in a political campaign” and deserved certainty instead of uncertainty.
“The students of India deserve far better than being treated as props in a political campaign. They deserve certainty over chaos, solutions over slogans and responsibility over disruption,” he wrote.
“We owe our students more than outrage. We owe them answers, reforms and accountability. That is exactly what our government remains committed to delivering,” Pradhan added.
NEET UG will become fully computer-based from 2027, according to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The exam will replace the current pen-and-paper format with OMR answer sheets. The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions and protests regarding NEET-UG.
