Germany’s inflation expected at 2.8% in July 2026

Germany’s provisional consumer price index (CPI) for July 2026 points to annual inflation of 2.8 per cent, with consumer prices 0.8 per cent higher than in June 2026, according to the  the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), giving textile, apparel and retail sourcing teams another macro price indicator to factor into cost and pricing reviews.

The provisional harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) is also put at 2.8 per cent compared with the same month a year earlier, and at 0.9 per cent compared with the previous month.

Energy prices are expected to rise 8.3 per cent year on year, keeping input-cost watchpoints active for buyers and manufacturers.
HICP is also put at 2.8 per cent year on year; final July results are due on August 12, 2026.

The inflation rate is measured as the change in the CPI compared with the same month a year earlier. Based on the results available so far, Destatis in a release said core inflation, excluding food and energy, is expected to stand at 2.4 per cent in July 2026.

Energy prices are expected to be 8.3 per cent higher than in the same month of the previous year. The rise in energy prices accelerated in July compared with 3.4 per cent in June 2026 versus June 2025 and 6.6 per cent in May 2026 versus May 2025.

The HICP is calculated in addition to the national CPI particularly to enable comparisons within the euro area, and is the key measure for quantifying price stability within the framework of European monetary policy, added the release.
