Neymar has found himself in the headlines once again, but this time, it is for the wrong reasons.

The Brazilian superstar was involved in a heated altercation with his opponents following the conclusion of the Copa do Brasil quarter-final clash between Santos and Remo. The incident occurred after Santos secured a narrow 1-0 victory at the Mangueirão Stadium, a result that booked their place in the competition’s semi-finals.

Neymar’s confrontation reportedly began with tensions between the player and Remo supporters during the match. The 34-year-old was allegedly subjected to constant heckling from fans throughout the contest, which appeared to contribute to the growing frustration on the pitch.

Following the final whistle, Neymar approached the Remo bench and supporters’ section, where he was seen exchanging words with those around him. The forward was reportedly heard repeatedly shouting, “you’re out”.

With tempers flaring, the situation threatened to escalate further, but the intervention of several players helped prevent the confrontation from spiralling out of control.

The controversy continued to attract attention after a video circulated widely on social media.

The footage appeared to show Neymar taunting members of the Remo staff before he was eventually escorted away from the area.

‘Behaved Like A Clown’

Remo officials were unhappy with Neymar’s actions after the match, with club president Antonio Carlos criticising the Brazilian star and describing his behaviour as that of a “clown.”

Carlos also expressed disappointment that a player of Neymar’s stature, who has long been admired by younger football fans, was involved in such an incident.

“Neymar, idolised by children, behaved like a clown and then provoked us. We only have ourselves to blame for idolising people like him,” Carlos was quoted as saying by goal.com.

Recently, Neymar had said he will reconsider his future after the end of his contract with Santos.

“I’m not thinking about retirement,” Neymar said. “I’m under contract at Santos until December, and I want to do my best for the club. After that, I will consider my options.”
