China filament yarn steady as upstream eases on crude oil swing?

The muted yarn-side movement contrasts with a more eventful week further up the chain, where purified terephthalic acid (PTA) extended a multi-session retreat before losing momentum, and mono ethylene glycol (MEG) whipsawed on crude-linked volatility before settling into a broader downward trend. Together, the two feedstocks account for the bulk of polyester production cost, and their divergent paths are likely to shape spinner margins into the second half of August.

POY ***D/**F leads the week&#**;s declines while feedstock markets pull in opposite directions, leaving spinners to navigate a mixed cost picture heading into mid-August.

With unchanged prices, mills appear to be holding prices steady rather than chasing the softer feedstock tape. The narrow one-per-cent slide in POY ***D/**F FOB China stands out as the only grade to meaningfully track the broader easing seen upstream, hinting that export-facing offers are somewhat more reactive to feedstock movement than domestically-focused quotes.

PTA moved lower across the import-facing benchmarks: CFR Far East Asia fell from $*.*** to $*.*** per kg (-*.* per cent), CFR/CIF India from $*.*** to $*.*** per kg (-*.* per cent), and CFR Southeast Asia from $*.*** to $*.*** per kg (-*.* per cent). This roughly *.**.* per cent weekly decline continues a slide that has since lost momentum, with quotes largely stabilising over the past few sessions even as related upstream markets stayed volatile. Buyers appear to be holding off on fresh purchases, betting on further softening rather than covering near-term needs now a wait-and-see stance that is itself helping keep the market range-bound. Bucking the trend, FOB China rose from $*.*** to $*.*** per kg (+*.* per cent), pointing to a domestic Chinese supply-demand balance moving independently of the broader import complex.
