Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 is continuing its remarkable run at the box office. What started as a film riding heavily on nostalgia has now turned into one of the biggest theatrical success stories of 2026, with the sequel surpassing Welcome To The Jungle to become the 5th highest-grossing film of the year.
Awarapan 2 has now accumulated Rs. 133.58 crore, taking it past the Rs. 130.79 crore collected by Akshay Kumar-led Welcome To The Jungle. The achievement is particularly noteworthy given the contrasting journeys of the two films. While Welcome To The Jungle arrived as a large-scale comedy franchise with a huge ensemble cast and an established brand name, Awarapan 2 has built its run around the emotional recall of a cult favourite and the renewed theatrical pull of Emraan Hashmi.
The film’s performance has been steadily strengthening its position in what has been a competitive year at the box office. It has already emerged as Emraan Hashmi’s biggest solo theatrical success, with the actor delivering a career-defining comeback with the sequel. The film also crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark within its first week, underlining the consistency of its run rather than relying solely on a big opening.
With Awarapan 2 now at Rs. 133.58 crore, only four films are ahead of it on the 2026 chart. Dhurandhar The Revenge remains in a league of its own with Rs. 1,108.09 crore, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day at Rs. 490.50 crore, Border 2 at Rs. 341.70 crore and The Odyssey at Rs. 183.55 crore.
Interestingly, the next target for Awarapan 2 is not too far away. Bhooth Bangla stands at Rs. 168.263 crore, meaning the Emraan Hashmi starrer needs another Rs. 34.683 crore to move into the fourth position. Dhamaal 4, at Rs. 163.74 crore, is even closer, leaving the possibility of another climb up the chart if the film continues to hold.
The bigger story, however, is what the ranking represents for Hashmi. For an actor whose theatrical fortunes had come under scrutiny in recent years, Awarapan 2 has provided a timely reminder that audience connect can return when the right film taps into it. The original Awarapan may not have been a major theatrical blockbuster when it released, but its music, emotional core and Hashmi’s performance gradually turned it into a cult favourite. That affection has now translated into significant commercial value for the sequel.
The current top 10 of 2026 makes Awarapan 2’s achievement even more striking. After Dhurandhar The Revenge, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Border 2 and The Odyssey, the film has moved ahead of both Bhooth Bangla and Dhamaal 4 in the latest ranking provided, while pushing Welcome To The Jungle down to the eighth position.
For Hashmi, though, the ranking is perhaps less important than the momentum behind it. Awarapan 2 has gone from being a nostalgic sequel to becoming a genuine box office force. And with the film still adding to its tally, the 2026 leaderboard may not be the final stop for Emraan Hashmi’s comeback story.
