While there is no nationwide announcement of a school holiday for the day, local administrations may declare closures depending on the severity of the weather in their respective districts.
In Odisha, local administrations in some districts have already announced school closures as a precautionary measure amid continued heavy rainfall. Authorities in other districts may also consider declaring a holiday if weather conditions deteriorate.
Students and parents should note that a rain-related school holiday is generally determined at the district or local level. Therefore, the absence of a state-wide announcement does not necessarily mean that schools in every district will remain open. Parents are advised to check notices issued by their respective district administrations, schools or education departments before sending children to school on August 27.
Schools to Remain Closed on August 28 for Raksha Bandhan
The holiday calendar will change on Friday, August 28, with schools in several states observing a holiday for Raksha Bandhan.
Government and private schools in several parts of North India are expected to remain closed for the festival. States including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Gujarat, among others, may observe the holiday.
However, Raksha Bandhan is not observed as a school holiday uniformly across the country. Sunday Holiday on August 30
Students will also get the regular Sunday break on August 30. For students whose schools observe the August 28 holiday, the combination of the festival holiday and Sunday could provide an extended break.
