The State Bank of India (SBI) has declared the SBI PO Prelims Result 2026, paving the way for the next stage of the recruitment process. A total of 15,802 candidates have been shortlisted for the SBI PO Mains examination against 1,500 Probationary Officer vacancies. The Prelims result was announced on August 28, while the scorecard and cut-off marks were released on September 1, 2026. The exam was held on August 1.
Candidates should keep one important point in mind regarding SBI PO recruitment. Preliminary exam scores will not be considered in the final merit list. This means that a strong performance in the Main and Final rounds will now be crucial for selection. Based on their performance in the Main exam, candidates will be shortlisted for the third round of the selection process, that is, Phase III.
What’s next?
The SBI PO Mains 2026 examination is scheduled to be conducted on September 12. Candidates who have qualified in the Preliminary Examination should now shift their focus to the Mains syllabus, which includes objective and descriptive components.
In the Mains, candidates will face both objective and descriptive questions. The objective test will carry 200 marks and will be given 3 hours to complete it. The exam will have allotted time for different sections. The descriptive test will be conducted immediately after this.
What happens after SBI PO Mains?
Candidates who qualify in the Mains examination will move to Phase III, which includes a psychometric test, group exercise and personal interview. Candidates must qualify separately in both Phase II and Phase III.
Importantly, Prelims marks will not be considered for the final merit list. The Mains score, including the objective and descriptive tests, will be normalised to 75 marks, while Group Exercise and Interview will together carry 25 marks.
The final round of the SBI PO selection process will include a psychometric test, group exercises, and a personal interview. Candidates’ thinking, personality, communication skills, and their ability to be considered suitable for the banking sector will also be assessed.
SBI’s recruitment schedule indicates that the Mains result is expected around September/October, followed by Phase III in October/November and the final result in November/December 2026.
