Ingredients
- Dates : I used soft, seedless medjool dates. They add natural sweetness and help hold the mixture together. You can use any soft dates of your choice.
- Cocoa powder : I used unsweetened dutch processed cocoa powder for a rich chocolate flavour and dark color.
- Honey : Honey adds natural sweetness and helps bring the ingredients together. You can adjust the amount depending on how sweet your dates are.
- Mixed nuts : I used a mix of almonds and cashews for a nice nutty flavor and crunchy texture. You can also add walnuts, pistachios or any nuts you like.
- Flax seeds : Flax seeds add a mild nutty flavour and a little crunch. You can use them whole or lightly roast them before adding.
- Desiccated coconut : Desiccated coconut adds a mild coconut flavour and sweetness to the bites.

Expert Tips
Choosing Dates – Use soft dates, as they work best to help bind the mixture together. If your dates are dry, soak them in hot water for a few minutes and drain them well before using. Remove any seeds from the dates before chopping.
Roasting nuts – If preferred, you can lightly roast the nuts and flax seeds for an extra crunch and flavour.
Be stingy with honey – Add honey little by little, especially if your dates are already sticky and sweet. Too much honey can make the mixture difficult to shape.
Add ons – For a richer chocolate flavour, you can add a little melted dark chocolate. It also helps bind the mixture together. You can also add other nuts and seeds like sunflower seed, pumpkin seed, walnut, raisin, pistachio or chia seed to make it more nutritious.
Chill them – Refrigerate the shaped energy bites for a few minutes. This helps them firm up and makes them easier to handle.
Storage – Store the chocolate dates energy bites in a clean, airtight container. It stays well at room temperature for a week. You can also wrap individual bites in aluminium foil to prevent them from sticking together.
Serving – Serve these energy bites as a quick evening snack with tea or coffee. They are also great for travel, picnics, pre workout snacks or for gifting.
