Teenage Wushu athlete Divyanshi Choudhary has said that over the past three months, the Wushu Association of India has been after her because they wanted to field two-time Asian Games medallist Naorem Roshibina Devi for the upcoming tournament, adding that she is being sent to Aichi-Nagoya despite being defeated by Divyanshi, which has now pushed her to commit suicide.

Divyanshi’s recent social media posts had reflected her excitement as she counted down to the Asian Games. She had shared pictures of her kit laid out on her bed, along with glimpses of the Indian team’s send-off ceremony in New Delhi four days earlier.

In her latest video, however, Divyanshi appeared dejected and teary-eyed. She had just learned that she had been dropped from the women’s 60kg category and replaced by Roshibina, whom she had beaten in the selection trials for the Nagoya Games.

“I am tired of this… I have been mentally harassed so much. Since June and July, they have been after me because she (Roshibina) wanted to go. Given that I beat her, why is it a problem for her now,” Divyanshi said in a video that has now gone viral on social media.

“I beat her, it is my right to go there (Japan). She has been knocking at different doors…it is abuse of power,” Divyanshi said.

Speaking to Sportstar, Association president Jitender Bajwa said that her name wasn’t removed from the team by the Association, but by the Sports Authority of India after it was discovered that she had concealed a knee injury.

Divyanshi’s father, Sunil, admitted that she had suffered an injury but said that it was being treated. “After she sustained the injury, we took Divyanshi to a doctor for a check-up. She had an ACL injury, but the doctor said that it could be treated through rehab,” Sunil said while speaking to Sportstar.

Bajwa added that Divyanshi was replaced by Roshibina, who had lost in the semifinals of the trials, rather than one of the finalists, not because the Association favoured her, but because both finalists had also suffered injuries.
