US textile and apparel imports dropped by *.** per cent to $**.*** billion during January-August ****, down from $**.*** billion a year earlier, according to newly released international trade data from the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) under the International Trade Administration of the US Department of Commerce.
Vietnam maintained its position as the top supplier. The country supplied **.** per cent of textile and garment imports in terms of value during the first eight months of this year. China was the second-largest supplier, with a share of **.** per cent of US textile and apparel imports.
During January-August ****, apparel imports, the dominant product category, softened by *.** per cent to $**.*** billion, compared with $**.*** billion in the corresponding period of ****. Non-apparel imports also fell by *.** per cent to $**.*** billion.
