Star Portugal and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha has said that, on his end, he just hopes everything resolves for the best in the national camp, even as legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo remains at loggerheads with head coach Jorge Jesus.

Ronaldo apologised to supporters earlier last week while criticising Jesus, adding that he would accept any punishment for walking out on the national team during the Nations Cup.

Ronaldo was subsequently suspended.

“It was a chaotic international break. Full of emotions. On my end, I just hope everything resolves for the best. That he (Ronaldo) returns and everything turns out fine,” Vitinha said while speaking to TNT Sports Brasil.

“The truth is that is what all of us want. I hope he (Ronaldo) comes back and everything gets resolved,” Vitinha added.

Ronaldo walked out of Portugal’s Nations League camp after being brought on to warm up but not introduced against Norway on Sunday, September 27, before learning that he wouldn’t start against Denmark on October 1.

Ronaldo is the all-time top goalscorer and record appearance-maker in men’s international football.

As per Portuguese media reports, the federation’s regulations stipulate a suspension of one to six months for any footballer who misses a training session, a game or a national team activity.

On October 6, Ronaldo accused Jesus of going back on his promise to give him playing time in the Nations League. But he insisted that he had no plans to retire from international football and would be available for selection once he had served any potential suspension.

Ronaldo claimed that Jesus had broken his promise to bring him on against Norway and couldn’t mention multiple points they had agreed upon during a prior conversation at the press conference ahead of the Denmark match.

One of Ronaldo’s pre-approved talking points was that Jesus had ‘made a mistake in asking someone of the stature of Pele or Maradona to warm up and then not sending him on in the match’.
